Aluminium Forgings

Aluminium forgingAluminium forgings are strong and cost-effective when compared with alternative fabrication options. Forgecast have been forging aluminium for at least 30 years, and the porosity free quality of aluminium forgings gives superior results across a wide range of applications. A variety of surface treatments are offered, ranging from a rumble or vibratory polish, to a bright chemical dip.

Forgecast manufacture a broad range of aluminium forgings in weights from 30 grams to 4 kg. The alloys used include 2000, 6000 es and 7000 series. Heat treatment is done in-house, to the specification required by the customer and batch results logged on a continuous basis.

Typical components produced include:

  • Leisure products

  • Automotive products

  • Valve bodies

  • Spray gun handles

  • Bicycle components

  • Defence/aerospace applications

  • Heat sinks

  • Electrical hardware

  •

When forged and heat treated, the light (SG=2.7) and common aluminium alloys exhibit some mechanical properties comparable with many grades of steel. (SG=7.8). The strength to weight ratio is therefore far superior. For example, the alloy 2014-T6 has a typical UTS of 485MPa, exceeding that of many grades of steel, and all commonly used Al and Mg casting alloys.
